Based on the fact that the world's greatest problems are based on the split
we create between ourselves and others, this class will bridge the philosophy and practices of yoga with the tenants of Social Justice and Activism. Class will begin with a discussion and exploration of the power of Compassion as Love in Action, how our liberation is bound to the liberation of others and how we can take the steps to heal ourselves and our communities. We will then move into awakening and embodying these qualities through Mantra, an all level Lotus Flow Vinyasa practice and Meditation. Yoga and meditation are often perceived as solely internal, individual practices. Yet these practices can also be undertaken to promote positive social and personal developments that benefit the greater community. The concern for the social welfare of both the world and its people is essential to the practice of Yoga and for the sake of personal transformation and social justice. Historically, Yoga and meditation have been instrumental in facilitating social change.
Class time devoted to lecture: 11-20 minutes
